The work is very exploratory and unrestricted by ‘sets’ of jewellery required by traditional jewellery sellers, and the designs, which are made by working direct to metal, tend to emerge as she works at the bench. She is particularly interested in abstract designs, fractals, and geometric forms, preferring shapes and texture which are undefined and often influenced, for some unknown reason, by German artists - Jurgen Möbius, Anselm Kiefer, Hermann Jűnger among others. There is a starkness and clarity about their work that she finds compelling.

Technically, Sarah often uses combinations of metals – copper, brass and silver, sometimes fusing them at high heat because of the different melt temperatures and the interesting effects this results in.

She also uses surface hammering, and patination to achieve

texture, and as a throw-back to the textile years, employs woven construction techniques with silver wire and fine sheet.
Simple methods of construction and tools are used, because she finds the work of the very earliest gold- and silversmiths the most inspiring – clear shapes and designs of exceptional beauty.

Brooches are bold and unusual in design, often abstract and one-off pieces and a chance to experiment with technical processes and shape. Also probably because of the weaving processes she very much enjoys making chains, repeated elements, with close attention to how the linking is made and the chain falls and flows.

Sarah sells her work in London, and shops and galleries in Devon, and has clients in Japan, US, New Zealand and Australia and via her website.
